Collaboration to support the Foodbank

Generous donations from Asda on Whinbush Way have been collected by volunteers to help residents in need

As part of its Fight Hunger Create Change programme, a partnership between Asda, FareShare and the Trussell Trust, both the supermarket and its customers have generously been leaving food and essential items that would be taken to King's Foodbank by Darlington Support volunteers.

Asda Community Champion at Darlington Store Louise Gibson said: "Our customers are always generous with their donations to our Fight Hunger Create Change collection in store, especially during the pandemic. As a store we have also been able to donate goods with the extra help we have received from Asda Foundation whose mission is to transform communities and improve lives, especially during these unprecedented times."

King's Foodbank Manager Caroline Todd said: "King's Foodbank are extremely indebted towards Darlington Support Group for the wonderful ongoing support of all that we do here at King's. They have been out in all weathers throughout the whole of this pandemic, delivering food parcels on our behalf and making vital collection runs for us to and from the Asda store, and we would like to also take this opportunity to thank Asda and all the wonderful community for their heart to help others."

Darlington Support founders Kimberley Scott and George Jabbour said: "Since the start of the pandemic, the residents of Darlington have been doing everything they can to support those most impacted by these difficult times. Not only did many people offer their time to assist the vulnerable residents by joining Darlington Support to help with tasks such as delivering food and medication, but they also made big-hearted donations through local supermarkets. Our collaboration with Asda and King's Foodbank has ensured that donations at the supermarket's Whinbush Way store have been collected and taken to the Foodbank and that hundreds of food parcels have been delivered to residents who cannot leave their home."
